WHO ARE: THE REGION TBT 2018

Quick Hits

Bid: Buy-in slot

Number of Active Pros: 5

TBT History: Lost in the first round in 2016. Lost in the first round in 2017.

Nutshell:  Named "The Region" because all of the players on the team are from an area of Northwest Indiana that extends into the South Side of Chicago. Almost beat Purple & Black in 2016 behind Stefhon Hannah's ridiculous, second-half shooting performance. Purple & Black since poached him.

What to Know

After suffering first round setbacks to Purple & Black in TBT 2016 and Scarlet & Gray last summer, GM Corey Moore and company are out for revenge in TBT 2018. Did you really expect these guys to give up that easy? This lifelong group of friends from Illinois and Indiana are out to prove that their region has the best basketball players in the world. As Moore states, “I don’t call us a team. I call us a family. I’ve been with most of these guys since they were kids coming up. We conquered the local hoop scene and now we want to test our skills in the biggest and best tournament in the world right now!!!!!”

While you may not know many of the guys on this team, that does not mean they can’t play ball. In fact, as we saw the last two summers, quite the opposite is true. The Region gets its motivation from the fact that many overlook them each and every time they take the floor. Take a guy like Malcolm Griffin for example. Despite parlaying a terrific college career at both Toledo (2009-2011) and Fresno Pacific (2012-2014) into an overseas career filled with accolades, many will not know his name when he takes the court this summer. This drives The Region. Stories like this can be found up and down the roster.

It will be a tough road to the $2 million check. But if anyone is up to the challenge, it’s this gritty group of ballers from Indiana and Illinois.

Scarlet & Gray made nine of its 12 free-throw attempts, but have some room for improvement with their 3-point shots, making only one-fourth of their attempts. Jeremy Saffold's 19 points for The Region led all scorers.

How They Fared in TBT 2016

Round 1: Pullen leads Purple and Black to victory over The Region

Jacob Pullen scored 24 points to help Purple and Black stave off a furious eleventh hour comeback attempt by The Region and hold on for an 85-82 win on Saturday in Chicago. The Region led by three at the break, but Purple and Black shot nearly 20 percent better from the floor in the second half than they did in the first. The Kansas State alumni team secured a 72-71 lead with 4:53 left to play and wouldn't trail again. For The Region, Stefhon Hannah scored 27 points and handed out four assists for the Region, and Jeremiah Wilson added 24 points and 11 rebounds. Pullen was joined in double figures by four other teammates.
