Philadelphia University to host Northeast Regional

The Basketball Tournament announced today that Philadelphia University will host the Northeast Regional July 17-19. Philadelphia University’s state-of-the-art, 1,000-seat Gallagher Athletic, Recreation and Convocation Center will host tournament games for the second straight year, after serving as the opening round site in 2014.

“TBT is excited to be coming back to Philadelphia University for a second year,” said Jonathan Mugar, Founder of The Basketball Tournament. “Last year’s inaugural event at the Gallagher Center was a great success and we can actually repurpose some of our venue-specific signage, which is cool.”

A multi-purpose facility, the Gallagher Center is home to Philadelphia University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, who play on Herb Magee Court, named after Philadelphia U’s long-time head coach, Herb Magee, a college basketball Hall of Famer who recently won his 1,000th career game.

Philadelphia U joins DePaul (Midwest) in hosting regional play from July 17-19.  Cal-State Los Angeles (West) and Clayton State University—Atlanta (South) will host regional play from July 10-12.

DePaul will also host the Super 17 weekend, during which the final 16 teams (4 from each region) and the defending champions Notre Dame Fighting Alumni will meet in Chicago to compete in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, playing down to the 4 semifinalists. The Fighting Alumni will play the lowest remaining seed from the Midwest live on Thursday July 23rd on ESPNU at 8pm ET. All quarterfinals games, to be played on Saturday July 25th, will also be televised live on ESPNU with marathon coverage starting at noon Eastern.

The 4 semifinalists who survive the Super 17 will then come together at Fordham University’s historic Rose Hill Gymnasium in New York City for the semi-finals and $1 million, winner-take-all championship August 1 and 2, all televised live on ESPN.

Tickets will go on sale June 1 and will be available through
