DePaul to host Midwest Regional and Super 17

The Basketball Tournament announced today that DePaul University’s McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago will host the Midwest Regional July 17-19 as well as the Super 17 July 23-25, during which the final 16 teams and the defending champions Notre Dame Fighting Alumni will meet in Chicago to compete in the round of 16 and quarterfinals and play down to the 4 semifinalists.

“DePaul is the perfect host for our Super 17 event. Not only is it in the great neighborhood of Lincoln Park, but it also has a perfectly sized arena to host our Notre Dame Play-In Game, round of 16 and quarterfinals,” said Jonathan Mugar, Founder of The Basketball Tournament. “I’m confident that those in attendance at McGrath-Phillips Arena for our Super 17 will witness the best basketball being played anywhere in the world that weekend.”

The 4 semifinalists who survive the Super 17 will come together at Fordham University’s historic Rose Hill Gymnasium in New York City for the semifinals and $1 million, winner-take-all championship August 1 and 2, all televised live on ESPN.

The Fighting Alumni will play the lowest remaining seed from the Midwest live on Thursday, July 23rd on ESPNU at 8pm ET. All quarterfinals games, to be played on Saturday July 25th, will also be televised live on ESPNU with marathon coverage starting at noon Eastern.

DePaul’s Lincoln Park campus will host two consecutive weekends of play at McGrath-Phillips Arena, the home of the Blue Demons’ women’s basketball and volleyball teams. McGrath-Phillips Arena opened in 2000 and seats close to 3,000 fans.

DePaul joins Philadelphia University (Northeast) in hosting regional play from July 17-19. Cal-State Los Angeles (West) and Clayton State University—Atlanta (South) will host regional play from July 10-12.
