Balance is key, and Scarlet & Gray proved it tonight.
Playing without leading scorer and rebounder Jared Sullinger, the Ohio State alumni team used a 14-0 run midway through the third quarter to build a lead that it never relinquished in a 72-60 victory over the PrimeTime Players.
Aaron Craft had 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists, and William Buford chipped in with 14 points, including four three-pointers.
Greg Oden, the former top overall overall pick in the NBA Draft, had 11 points for Scarlet & Gray and was pleased with his TBT debut.
“It was good,” said the former top overall NBA draft pick. “We’re Buckeyes for life. [The Ohio State fans] made it a little bit more comfortable being out there.”
Despite the win, Scarlet & Gray coach Scoonie Penn knows that his team will need to improve in order to have a chance to claim TBT’s $2 million prize.
“Early on, we weren’t gritty enough,” said coach Scoonie Penn. “We had to grind back. We want to keep advancing.”
Sean Barnette scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the second half for PrimeTime, which shot just 29% in the second half.
