St. Anthony High School has been the pillar of success in New Jersey basketball for over 50 years. Under the leadership of Hall of Fame Coach Bob Hurley, St. Anthony has been a basketball powerhouse not only in Jersey City, but in the country, with 27 State Championships and 4 AP National Championships, both National Records. St. Anthony also has a tremendous Alma Mater, with notable NBA players such as Tyshawn Taylor, David Rivers, Donald Copeland, Chris Gaston, Ahmad Nivins, Mike Rosario and Travon Woodall just to name a few.
This team will be playing as "St. Anthony 2020," which is a media-focused fundraising campaign to generate financial security for St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, NJ. While Catholic high schools are closing at an alarming rate throughout the country and many inner city public schools do not meet the education needs of the students they serve, St. Anthony works.
Nevertheless, St. Anthony needs to raise $1.5 million each year to cover the budget shortfall between tuition payments and the actual cost to educate each of our 230 students. We are incorporating St. Anthony's entry in TBT as a part of our St. Anthony 2020 fundraising campaign and if we win, all $500,000 will go directly to keeping our school open. Note: You may have read that we don’t have a home-court. While that's true, it doesn’t mean that we won’t have the advantage if the TBT Championship Game is played in Jersey City!
The most storied high school basketball program in the country comes to TBT led by former Seton Hall and NBA star Terry Dehere, who brings a squad of recent alums, including Ahmad Nivins and Derrick Mercer with the goal of winning it all to help keep the Jersey City, NJ school’s doors open.
