The Numbers You Need To Know for TBT 2017
TBT 2017 is off and running. With almost three weeks of voting in the books and just 80 days until the first games tip off, let’s take a look at TBT 2017 by the numbers.
2,000,000 – On top of TBT’s potentially life-changing basketball exposure comes some seriously life-changing money. No consolation prizes here – the last team standing will take home every penny of the $2 million prize.
200,000 – The players aren’t the only ones who can bring home some TBT dough this summer. One hundred fans from the winning team will collectively take home $200,000 of the $2 million prize. The top fan will win $20,000 – Four fans will each take home $10,000 – Fifteen fans will each win $4,000 and 80 fans will each take home $1,000.
100 – In order to become eligible to make the tournament, each team must have at least 100 fan votes and a minimum of seven roster players. Voting is open now and the TBT 2017 field will be announced on June 6.
64 – Just like the NCAA Tournament, 64 teams will be invited to TBT 2017. Five-on-five, 36 minute games, single-elimination, winner-take-all.
13 – Two-time defending champion Overseas Elite has a perfect 13-0 career TBT record that has netted them $3 million in total prize money ($1 million in 2015, $2 million in 2016). They’ll be back again this summer and it’ll take a seriously strong squad to prevent those numbers from growing to 19-0 and $5 million.
9 – The top nine vote-getting teams in each region will get a spot in TBT 2017. Remember, a team must have a minimum of 100 votes and seven roster players to become eligible. From there, the race is on the get enough fan votes to comfortably land your team inside the top nine.
6 – Each region will also hand out six at-large bids to be determined by the TBT selection committee. The committee asks themselves “Does this make TBT a better tournament?” so keep bringing in the votes, going after the best roster players and spreading the word on social media.
4 – The final four spots in TBT 2017 will be up for grabs at the Jamboree in Philadelphia, June 18-19. Sixteen teams will vie for the final four slots, with two wins locking in a team's TBT invitation.
Keep an eye on the final four minutes of Jamboree games. At the under four-minute timeout, the clock will shut off and teams will play to a designated final target score. We call it the Elam Ending and it just might be the future of basketball crunch time.
1 – On August 3, one team will take a confetti shower and hoist the $2 million check as TBT 2017 Champions. Will Overseas Elite add to their already legendary TBT career or will a new team dethrone the champs and start a new era of dominance? You can watch it all unfold live from Baltimore on ESPN.
