DuBois Dream and Sideline Cancer Square Off for Charity

By: TBT Staff

Dubois, PA – TBT teams DuBois Dream and Sideline Cancer teamed up on Saturday night at DuBois Central Catholic High School to play for causes much greater than themselves. The teams laced them up and took the court to raise money for cancer charity causes that included the Greg & Cathy Griffith Foundation, Penn Highlands Healthcare Hahne Regional Cancer Center, Caring and Sharing for Kids, and Colors for a Cure.

The game started with a great assist from Hasiin Dixon to Trey Johnson for an easy layup. This connection would be prominent throughout the night as Dixon finished with a triple double of 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists.  It was a back-and-forth battle for the majority of the first half until Albert Varacallo III took over in the second quarter, scoring 12 of his 20 points in the quarter and hitting a buzzer beating layup to put the Dream up by 15 points going into halftime.

The Dream came out of the half continuing to fire on all cylinders, but Sideline Cancer made a huge second-half run led by former Patriot League All-Conference player Jesse Reed. Sideline Cancer was able to cut their deficit to just three points in the fourth quarter, but DuBois Dream hung on late for the 110-100 win thanks to a key and-one by Varacallo III and a fast break slam to seal the deal from Trey Johnson.

The two teams raised just under $2,500 that will go directly to their charities.

Statement from Dubois Dream and Sideline Cancer:

“This was a great game and a great event thanks to the unbelievable community support by the DuBois, PA area.  Both teams would like to thank The Basketball Tournament for providing them with an amazing opportunity to play on a national stage and for providing them with a platform to play for causes much greater than themselves.  This was a fantastic opportunity for two TBT teams to continue to spread the word about their causes, raise money for those causes, and have some fun on the basketball court.  We are looking forward to teaming up more in the future and we thank TBT for their awesome support!”
